Famous trumpeter José Miguel Crego (known as El Greco), has just finished his third CD Esta es mi mecánica , on Bis Music Label. The CD is based on the Jazz concept of Randy Brecker, kool style. The compositions belong to him and he invited Pucho López, orchestrator of the CD, and Jorge Luis Chicoy. The recording was in charge of Alfredo Machado and José Manuel García was the general director.

The double CD contains in the first álbum: Gozar, Segunda carta de amor y distancia, La lucha del Greco, Swing en Las Tunas, Una de cal y otra de arena, Cuestiones de domingo, Sentimiento, Mi amor a Galicia, Perico y Paula, Blues Beta, El rey del brillo . In the second one: 22 in the 70, Amor a primera vista, Cajita, Melancólico con piano, Caliente, pero no quema, La razón, Caminando por Ocean Dream avenue, Lady of my life, Camino al aeropuerto, La cachimba, Latin flavor, Esta es mi mecánica . “ These are two CDs to be listened, to talk and to enjoy”, says El Greco.

In three decades El Greco has joined groups like Irakere, Capri Orchestra, Afrocuba, Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna, Galaxia, Los Tumapamaros, Los del Caney, Niche, Afro Cuban All Stars (orchestra from Buena Vista Social Club project), in 1988 NG La Banda with which they set the salsa and timba boom. Nowadays he is part of Pasaje Abierto musical Project of Alexis Bosch Quinteto, performing every Saturday at 1830 Grecos Bar Colonial and every first Friday of each month at El Bosque.

Havanan trumpet player has recorded more than forty memorable discs, seven of them as soloist. He has performed on important salsa and jazz stages like the Lincoln Center and the Ronnie Scoth, sharing stages and recordings with Chucho Valdés, José L. Cortés, Willie Colón, Héctor Lavoe, Roberto Roena, Oscar D´ León, Frankie Ruiz, Papo Luccas, George Benson, Winton Marsalis, Iván Linz, Clark Ferry, Chick Corea, Tania María, Chico Freeman, Dave Valentín, Sami Figueroa, Gilberto Gil, Robbie Amen, Randy Broker. El Greco lives in Kohly neighborhood where he has a collection of pictures next to musicians from all over the world.

José Miguel won First Prize at the open Jazz Contest for trumpeters held in Panama City . I remember those tours and presentations of NG La Banda in which “ Los Metales del Terror ” (Elpidio Chapottín, el Greco, Carlos Averhoff y Germán Velazco) shot flashing melodic ideas. A new musical era began with the Cuban salsa and timba boom (November 1989) .

The rhythm of NG´s metals was very aggressive within the orchestra, making a good impression in dancers and catching the audience with precision and good adjustment of the strings that determines a responsible professional hallmark to sound, tempo and metrics of the orchestra. Those complex passages they performed for more than two years were never imitated by any other musical Project; no one did even try in Cuba or abroad. In Brazil they were described as fantastic in every performance they made, conducted by genius José Luis Cortés (El Tosco).

El Greco will remain in modern history as an acclaimed Cuban trumpet player, follower of great instrumentalists like Pucho Escalante, Nilo Argudín, Félix Chapotín and some other Cuban music stars.
